The future began in the past
Vindija is a cave not far from Varaždin, to which we owe our name, which today is synonymous with quality. And not by chance. It is known that the best master cheesemakers carried their cheeses to the caves for ripening for centuries in order to obtain the flavours, textures and marbling of noble healthy mould that develops only in ideal conditions of humidity and air flow. Vindija was the first in Croatia to start producing highly appreciated cheeses with noble mould and in 1970 it changed its name to Vindija, merging history and the future into one. People have gathered in Vindija Cave since prehistoric times, and the idea of gathering people together through gastronomic pleasure drives our company to this day. The production of premium food of the highest quality and nutritional value is our imperative, and in the creation of new products we seek to remain the first. We were the first in Croatia to replace in 1977 milk in glass bottles with Tetra Pak, and in the same year our brand ‘z bregov was created with a whole range of new products. Already then the future had begun! Growth, new semi-hard cheese factories and expansion into new markets marked the next decade in which we took over Varaždin Koka and became the largest producer of fresh chicken and chicken meat products under the name Cekin. Vindija then became the leader of the Croatian food industry and acquired the largest bakery in Varaždin, Latica. Subsequently, Vindija started with the production of juices, and the Rijeka meat processing industry ViR 1898 and the county dairy company Novi Domil joined us shortly after. To date, we have expanded our production to the markets of the region, and our products are available not only on the shelves of neighbouring countries, but also throughout Europe. We pay attention to the wishes and needs of each consumer, develop new products and connect all generations with flavours. Being a leader for us is the past, present and future, and Vindija has adopted this business philosophy in its rich history and harmonious relationship with its consumers.
